So this morning I woke up nice and early and I decided to spend a little time with the greatest guy ever! I gathered my things and made my way down to the dining hall to make myself some green tea. I then found a small patch of sunshine to sit in while I enjoyed my tea and Jesus time.
I was simply reading through my Bible (I’m currently reading in John) when I got to John 8; I seriously have a revelation every time I read this story.
John 8:2-11 NIV
At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
My favorite part is the last verse where Jesus says he doesn’t condemn her and tells her to leave her life of sin. The reason I love that is because He says that to all of us; he doesn’t condemn us, but calls us to live a sinless life.
I also used to think that living a sinless life was impossible, but with God we actually don’t have to sin. He gives us the wisdom to discern right and wrong and the strength to chose what is right. So we no longer have to live under the stereotype that, “We’re only human, we all sin.” When we commit our lives to God, he makes us new creations and we DON’T HAVE TO SIN. Seriously, how cool is that?!
Well there you go…The little bit of breakthrough from my Sunday morning to you, whatever day it is where you are.
Jesus died to make you new. Go now and leave your life of sin.
