Week 10 – Community Engagement & Fundraising

So this week looked a bit different than the other weeks have, but it was still completely amazing. We spent the week doing a few different things, but there was one awesome activity that stood out to me a lot.

We looked at a story in the book of Numbers in the Bible about men being sent out to spy out the land of Canaan. God had already promised the Israelites that he would give them this land, but he sent them out so that they could have a bit of a look at what God was giving them. After we looked at that story, we looked at the communities around us and looked at what God was speaking about the various areas. He has promised us that he will give us this city that we live in and we wanted to go out and see the land. So we split up into pairs and went out into different areas of the city and just spent time observing the people and really getting the feel for what the different communities were like. It was so cool how just observing a place for an hour gives you such a deeper insight to what the people are like and what goes on in this place. What was even cooler was knowing that God has already claimed these places for himself and that spoken that he wants to know the people that live there.

I think last week was a good reminder that God puts us in places for specific reasons – he doesn’t just shove us somewhere that we will fit, but he has plans for where we will grow the most and where we make the biggest impact. Maybe we just want to go around the world and help people, but I think that we need to be mindful of the people next to us. If you want to make a huge different, don’t forget that there are usually people within walking distance that could use a helping hand.
